Turbidity Barriers

Tough Guy® Turbidity Barriers, manufactured by Aer-Flo, Inc., restrict the movement of sediment laden water developed by construction operations in or adjacent to water bodies, wetlands or streams. Whether floating or staked, Tough Guy barriers use a vertical fabric skirt to contain the outbound migration of suspended fines and enable gravity to settle most of the particulates from the contained water column, minimizing damage to surrounding ecosystems. Tough Guy barriers are fabricated to meet a wide range of site-specific conditions such as barrier depth, barrier length, wave height, navigation signal mandates, current velocity and anchoring restrictions.

Type 1.DOT: For slow currents [≤ 1 fps] and/or minimal wave heights [<4"]. Fabricated with flexible top flotation chambers encapsulating 6" x 6" x 4' EPS billets.

Type 2.DOT: For moderate currents [≤ 5 fps] and/or deeper lakes or coastal areas, with or without boat wakes. Includes a steel load cable along the barrier top and flotation chambers surrounding 8" x 8" x 4' EPS billets. High-stress wear points are reinforced with aluminum shields.

Type 3.DOT: For similar applications to Type 2.DOT barriers. A permeable, woven geotextile is permanently fabricated into the skirt to meet specific flow-through requirements.

Staked Barriers: For quiescent water applications [≤ 18" depth]. Its primary function is either simple containment or flow diversion.
