Stormwater Clarification

Floc Logs® are semi-hydrated polymer blends that flocculate and/or chelate significant quantities of suspended and dissolved particulates within water, enabling clarification of the water prior to discharging to on or off-site locations. Floc Logs perform well regardless of whether the turbid water source is ponded or in-transit. Used in conjunction with conventional, i.e., structural/mechanical/procedural, erosion and sediment control BMPs, even clay and fine silts pose no concern to project owners, designers, contractors or operators in meeting the intent of Michigan's Part 91 rules and Phase II of the Clean Water Act. This MDEQ allowed, safe, chemical process completes the intent of erosion and stormwater control plans - clarified water, safe for discharge into even our most sensitive water resources.

Turbid water passing by Floc Logs slowly dissolves the polymer blend. Downstream movement and turbulence allows the suspended particulates to attach to the polymer blend molecular charge sites, forming floc [large particles]. When chemically possible, secondary electrovalent bonds form [chelation], enabling the removal of additional pollutants from the water, including many of which are dissolved. Down-gradient settlement, filtration or attachment processes remove the floc and chelates, rendering the water ‘clarified' and in virtually all applications, suitable for on or off-site discharge.

Floc Logs perform in both passive [gravity driven] and active [pump driven] systems. Their versatility, ease of use and simplicity of application result in economical solutions to turbid and other pollutant water problems. Typically, better performance and lower cost result from planning Floc Log use during erosion control plan development or site scheduling operations.
