Geosynthetic Clay Liners

Alcona Dam: Spreader bar lifting prevents roll end damage.Bentofix Thermal Lock® geosynthetic clay liner uses the high-swell capacity of sodium bentonite to produce an extremely low permeability rolled product that is easy to transport and install. This GCL structure encapsulates the sodium bentonite with a layer of needle-punched nonwoven geotextile on the upper side and either a woven or nonwoven geotextile on the bottom. Further needling processes intertwine the two geotextiles before the Thermal Lock process more permanently locks the fibers into a strong composite structure. The resulting product exhibits high shear strength, creep resistance and stability advantages required for nearly all applications. Alcona Dam - Bentofix used to reduce seepage through porous dam soils

When confined and subjected to liquid, the quantity and uniformity of the sodium bentonite swells to form a very low permeability layer with the equivalent hydraulic protection of several feet of compacted clay. Bentofix Thermal Lock GCL may be used alone as a liner or in conjunction with an overlying geomembrane to form a composite liner, depending on site conditions and prevailing regulations. Used either way, Bentofix Thermal Lock is resistant to the effects of differential settlement and seasonal temperature fluctuations.

Alcona Dam: Bentofix in place. Topsoil filled Geoweb used to support vegetation. North American Green DS150 blanket used to temporarily control erosion.Simple, cost-effective installation techniques make Bentofix Thermal Lock a practical alternative to compacted clay for a wide range of applications, including fresh water and waste water impoundments, secondary containment, landfill caps and liners as well as canal, dam and reservoir liners.
